album you should listen to vol. 1

Again, longtime no post. I have been furiously working at the national archives with my lil sis who I have hired as a research assistant. We haven't killed each other yet which is a good thing but we have caught beef with security. That's a pretty normal thing with us though. Good times. Now today I'm going to push the format a little bit. Instead of posting the traditional 3 music videos under 1 theme I will upload an album. This will be the first in a series of weekly or bi-weekly installments called "album you should listen to". Like the videos it will either be new music I deem "important" or straight up classics you might have slept on or just don't currently have on your hard drive. Hopefully some of you will download a record once in awhile.

To start us off on this aural journey is possibly the coolest band in hardcore. I think most people will say Trapped Under Ice is current king of the core but they are not the coolest band. That championship belt is worn by non other than Sacramento's TRASH TALK. I posted an interview a while back that proves my point. They play a very fast yet brooding type of hardcore. Listening to their progression as a band I truly believe they are something special and as their sound evolves they might get really big. Shit, Steve Albini produced their self titled album. THE NEXT NIRVANA! I am giving you the E.P entitled PLAGUES that came out in 2008. 6 songs totaling 5 minutes and 15 seconds. I would say the stand out track is MANIFEST DESTINATION. If you don't have it already, cop that shit.

TRASH TALK - PLAGUES (EP)

1. Scatter
2. Babylon, CA
3. Flood
4. Manifest Destination
5. Lepers To Feed The Lepers
6. Kill The Snakes

With a ticket for a runaway train

The weather right now is of 20 degrees celcius. I live in the hellish arctic city of Ottawa. The first day it's really warm out you get girls who overcompensate for a winter of big coats and multiple layers and it is awesome. Titties galore my friends, titties galore. So today I will hit you with 3 videos I love to intake on days like this. Get into it.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE - CIGARETTE IN YOUR BED.

Some pre loveless shit that is really awesome! The video here is probably the best fan made youtube video for song. Blast out the MBV while getting drunk on a stoop children!

BILL HICKS - POSITIVE DRUG STORY.

Possibly the best stand up comedian of all time. R.I.P. Get inspired for an awesome Friday night kids.

SCARFACE - MY BLOCK

One of the best jams ever to come out of Texas, straight up. To me this has such an airy glory daze nostalgic feel to it. Don't hate poor people youngsters.

protège ton cou

I went to go see a the legendary GZA this weekend. His live show is one of the best I've seen. No hypeman and the lyrics came out perfect. Played all the best songs totally grimy and NYC, great stuff. Anyways he called out security and some guy filmed it. A great video from a great show!

You ask me what I meant by

I really shouldn't be updating now but whatever. Newish hip hop (some clips are a bit old but the artists are still considered up and coming).

KIDZ IN THE HALL - DRIVING DOWN THE BLOCK. It has the obvious american hipster rap sound but I like it. The video is original but they could have went with a more traditional clip and maybe gotten more success. Very similar in sound the Cool Kids - Black Mags... who copied who?

Next is a mental song I am really digging K.R.E.A.M. by U-N-I. An obvious homage to the wu tang classic about sneakers (kicks rule everything around me). If the dude didn't have a cheesy frohawk I would back this group 1 million %. This song is making me think that summer is soon and that I'm gonna need a fresh pair of overpriced sneaks to look amazing in. I can't wait.

Finally we have a dude who's heralded as the next eminem but he has a calmer demeanor and is a great example of what white rappers can be. To me hip-hop works if you're talking from an honest point of view. ASHER ROTH - I LOVE COLLEGE. His voice could be a bit better but the subject matter hits me real close to home. I can't wait for my temporary-edge to be OVER. Pretty sure there's a Weezer sample in there which is pretty damn cool.
