And we could all use a little change

READ THIS POST IF YOU LOVE HIP HOP, RUB YOUR TITS IF YOU LOVE BIG SCOTZ.

Ok ok ok I gotta go to a house party real quick but I just got put on to a brand fuckin new video that made want to post bad. I'm going over to Kappanther's pad to ball out and get juiced for real. Step into liquid kate bosworth/Duke Kahanamoku style. Mad liquid. Mash it up style. This is me trying to advance slang technology like only eazy iain knows how. Trying to bust a nut and make buck is today's theme. Huslting international.

So we're going to start with an easy intro into the world of Grime (England's modification of Hip Hop). DIZZEE RASCAL, fairly big you might know him. Math + English was a good album if not more americanized (the song feat UGK reps hard). This is a pure story telling song which really takes you to the staircases of London's estates. The video has a real cool concept. The song is SIRENS.

BUT that's not what I'm hyping right now. Grime's kinda been quiet. KANO's coming out with a new album at the end of September and if this song is any indication it's going to be mads Haïti (means good/nuts.). The song is called HUSTLER and the video is a MUST WATCH for any The Wire fan. It's got that real Barksdale high rise feel kinda like young stringer bell who still wants to kill slick talking hoppers. FUCK ITS GOOD. Grime's back.

Now I talked sorta bad bout BOOBA who I call the French fitty. Listening to this song I gotta say his flow has something to it. He's way more aggro than fitty. The Warriors influence on the video. Dig GARDE LA PÊCHE. (translates to a combo of chill/shut the fuck up).

BONUS.

MANU MILITARI a Montréal white rapper who is maybe the best from a lyrical stand point. N.2 MTL conventional rapper. If you don't speak french you might not like the song as much because it is really lyric driven. The song is about bombing shit aka grafitti. It's real fuckin good, there's the shake of a spray can in the beat! L'EMPREINTE is the song.

you're welcome.

Call you up but what's the use

Getting a BMX was the best thing I did this summer. Like I always say its a car you can drive drunk! Giving rides to people on the pegs is where it's at (shout out to katou shopping, p-skilz, c-dubs and the spraklez). Funny that the only time I ever injured myself on the bike was when I was standing motionless. I was bit juiced up outside the Babylon nightclub and for some reason I fell down like a tree. I drunkenly BMXed home and woke up the next morning with blood on my sheets my shin had gushed pretty good without me ever realizing it. But I swear to god it's safe to get on the big baby mobile, lil africa will get you home safe. There's a sort of west coast theme today but not really.

First video is fairly new having come out in late april. It's from Torontonian electro duo CRYSTAL CASTLES. I vote that castles becomes the new "wolf" aka a word that is in every single band name. Imagine bands called white castles or frank castles? it could work... Uh... Anyways I don't know much about the group but the video is pretty cool. Alice Glass playing with her hoodie reminds of my ultrafriend JOSÉE BUSINESS.

Ok now I'm bringing 1998 back. The embryonic stage of the south's dominance of mainstream rap. HA by JUVENILE. The first star out of Cash Money records. Lil Wayne is the big thing right now and pitchfork is severely viagra'd on him to the point they were defending him when The Clipse finally fired back at his ridiculous bullshit. Music journalism will look back and be embarrassed for giving such praise to this kid. He will be the flock of seagulls of our generation. And this isn't me hating I like a lot of his songs but not to the point of viagra side effect giving boners. ANYWAYS my fuckin point is that you can briefly see his 15 year old ass in this video hiding behind Juvenile. Funny side story this video made me miss the bus in grade 9. To me it was like a hip hop punk song. I had never heard anything like it, the weird rhymes the thumping snare. Also you can see that pre-Katrina Nawlins was still a hell hole. When the vice principal asked me why I was late I told him all about Juvenile. The asshole still gave me detention.

To wrap it up we are going mellow. ICE CUBE - TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY. Ice Cube on his good days (get it?) is in my top 5 rappers of all time. Downtempo music from warm climates FTW.

SNOOP! He is one of the only big rappers today who can really freestyle off the top his head. One CLASSIC Rap City Freestyle that goes super long and an impromptu freestyle off 106 & Park. These are the videos you want to click today.

life as (looking for) a shorty shouldn't be so rough

Today's theme is love. My love. My love for celebrity musician ladies. Simple hotness is not enough to make the list. It's a conjuncture of beauty, STYLE and my love of their music. The women you will see today are all celebrities that, if I met them, the situation would become ultra awkward due to me actually being in love with them. I would abandon my own children for a simple afternoon of hand holding with these mamasitas.

First up is a young woman who has gotten a lot of attention these past years. You might already know her story about her Sri Lankan origin so I'm not going to bore you with that. M.I.A.'s music is straight up awesome arular and kala are easily in my most listened albums on my ipod. She is also a great visual artist and her badassness is unmatched (she was on a terrorism watch list in the u.s.). She also talks about the world wide ghetto which appeals to my white man's guilt. seriously though her videos reminds of the last city bus to leave my high school aka united nations of hood. My chances of getting with her: medium. due to the fact I have U.K. citizenship and could relocate just for her if need be. The song is her first single GALANG I chose this because its the video that showcases her beautiful face the most. When I saw her live I felt like what I imagine first time heroine use to be like.

In a similar vein we have french electrop pop/rap superstar YELLE. Now she's a special case for me. Her biggest hit and the video I am showcasing JE VEUX TE VOIR is a straight up diss track against a previously featured artist Cuizinier. I think she realizes that her fame is based off of his name though. It's like a hot girl that you will temporarily sacrifice key guy friendships for. But I dunno she's so hot she might just be "the girl who ruined iain"for my friends. Sigh... My chances of getting with her: high she's pretty much my age, we have the same native tongue and we have similar interests and backgrounds. Her style is out of this world and she's so hot that she almost makes me feel ugly :( When I saw her live it was like having little cherubs playing music in my heart.

Finally we have CAT POWER aka Chan Marshall. The odd one out. Not poppy or fun but folky and sad. Her voice is super haunting. At first I didn't like her music that much cause it sort of depressed me too much but as I have grown older and the weight of modern life crushes my soul I have started listening to this on a daily basis. Earlier in the blog's life I said that depressed girls suck me in, well she falls into this category. The song is called LIVED IN BARS which I find to be more upbeat than a lot of her stuff. Like for the other videos today it was chosen for hotness showcase more than me loving the song. chances of me and Chan being together: very low. She's a lot older than me and has other shit to deal with. If it would work out her bummed out state would be a black hole consuming and destroying all my love. THAT BEING SAID when I saw her in concert I swear to fucking god we made eye contact and it was magical. (i totally sounded like BSB fan there.).

BONUS: not françoise hardy because she will be back later BUT some MINOR THREAT! wait what? Check the clip at around 35 seconds a girl comes up and starts singing along. I love you mystery girl, wherever you are! The song is called FILLER and it's amazing.

yo yo dye them walabees fuchsia son. hmmmmmm.

WU TANG WEEKEND WRAP UP!

Did not post this weekend cause I was in Toronto visiting Ottawa ex-pats. Open bar hipster parties are pretty sweet.

WU TANG WEEKEND WRAP UP! This post will be dedicated to members of the Wu Tang Clan. This one of my favorite groups ever. I really don't need to go into detail because you should already know what is. The first selection is probably their biggest single in terms of popularity when it came out. TRIUMPH is a really sweet song because almost every member has a verse on it. The video is not only wicked but it also introduces you to each member. I was 13 when this came out and it did a lot to get me into hip-hop. Music history also sees this a unique single as it is around 6 minutes (which is fuckin long single wise) and it has NO CHORUS. To me it embodies Wu Tang, it's just just crashes in to your house, makes out with your sister and steals a lamp. 13 year olds today have soldier boy...

We now venture into the Wu solo projects. RAEKWON ranks up high on my list of favorite MCs. His album Only Built For Cuban Linx is pretty much one of the best albums of the 90's and considered to be very influential in gangsta rap. But to me it's not really the mafia imagery on this that I like but the feeling of constantly looking over your shoulder and trying to make a living all the whilst going through a shitty life that it evokes. It's less yo I'm the shit but more the I'm trying to get out of the shit. In grade 7 this kid Gardy in my class looked exactly like him and it was hilarious, he had a love/hate relationship with that nickname. Anyways this song makes me think of being 15 in minus 30 weather trying to not get robbed at Elmvale and trying (and probably failing) to look tough while selling fake rolexes to 19 year old Rwandans. INCARCERATED SCARFACES BY RAEKWON THE CHEF.

We now arrive to the zenith of rawness. OL' DIRTY BASTARD, possibly one of the greatest musical geniuses of our time. One of those straight up mentally ill artists that is just light years beyond us normal kids, he's on that real Van Gogh shit. The song is BROOKLYN ZOO PROPER. This is just so punch you in the face. No one will ever be like Ason Unique. His entire first album (Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version) was entirely freestyled. Big Baby Jesus is Big Baby Campbell approved. If you don't like this, not only are you not my friend but I hope you never reproduce and raise hater kids. ENJOY.

BONUS CACA:

Don't worry there will be many more Wu Tang Weekend Wrap Ups where we will cover other members. In the meantime we will stick to ODB. He's called the bastard because there is no father to his style. I leave you with an AMAZING interview and drunken freestlye/poem/something. ODB RIP.
